What’s better than making a campfire in the middle of nowhere in Lapland while waiting for the Northern Lights to show up. The only things that you will need are: spark, kindling and wood. Birch bark will be your best friend as kindling, Finland is covered up with plenty of birch forests. It’s thin, soft and burns easily. And for the wood, birch again will be your best companion.
Here we are in the South of the Finnish Lapland around 80 kms East from Rovaniemi (main city where Santa Claus resides with his goblins), above the Arctic Circle, surrounding by birch and pine forest, river, wild animal, …. and darkness 20 hours a day at that period (early December). The first human neighbor living at 7 kms away, that is definitely the peacefullest and loneliest hideaway.
The midnight sun, the Sámi peoples, the northern lights and the wandering reindeer are all components which definitely participate in the magic of Finnish Lapland.
